To The Post

To The Post (c)
To The Post (c)
To The Post was made in rememberence of a friend of ours. The excitment of the horse races we always found thrilling. Picking the right horse to win was fun, exhilarating and probably all wrong from the way the experts pick the winning horse.
The horses long delicate thin legs with  the strong body form is truly amazing.
I wanted to project the day at the races. By doing so, I used two circles of clear glass  which I full fused together. I then designed the sky by cutting the clouds with my Taurus Ring saw and then fused to the circles around 1450 degrees. Next was the tree tops cutting them at different angles to project the sihouette of tree tops but before firing I made the rolling hills with the tree tops laying on top of the glass, this was fired at a lower temperture. The last process which was difficult was drawing and cutting the horses with the saw. You may notice a different in size with the horses body. The reason is because each color of glass melts differently at the same temperture which makes the body form a little more round. The post was the last piece added to the scenery and still fired at a temperture even lower than the rest.
This sits in a black steel stand that compliments the piece.
I hope you enjoy  this piece and if you have any comments please share.
Thank you,
Sherry Richardson
